Visit the World Heritage Sites
in the Ryukyu Kingdom to receive a special gift!

Visit the World Heritage Sites in the Ryukyu Kingdom to collect stamps at facilities and receive a special gift. The gift that you receive is determined by the number of stamps collected. Original stickers and tote bags are some of the examples.
You can collect stamps on the paper stamp card, or collect digital stamps using your smartphone. Present your paper or digital stamp card with at least one stamp at one of the many participating facilities to receive a good deal.

World Heritage

The “Gusuku Sites and Related Properties of the Kingdom of Ryukyu”

The Gusuku Sites and Related Properties of the Ryukyu Kingdom are comprised of historic remains including castles (gusuku). They were registered as World Heritage Sites in December, 2000 because of their significance as symbols of Okinawa that developed a unique culture through trade with other countries.

Shuri-jô

As the castle of the Ryukyu king, it played a central role in the politics, diplomacy, and culture of the Ryukyu kingdom. Even today, events featuring banquets and ceremonies from that time are held in the main building of the castle.

The space behind the gate built from the culturally important Ryukyu limestone was sacred, and prayers for the king's safety when traveling would be offered before this stone gate.

Tamaudun

These are the tombs of the kings of the Second Shō Dynasty. They contain the remains of the kings as well as their consorts and children.

Shikinaen

This has a long and distinguished history as a villa of the Ryukyu royal family. It was used for the royal family's recuperation and to entertain guests of honor (accredited envoys from China), and has a traditional mansion, a footpath, and a tranquil pond.

Sēfa-utaki

This sacred and verdant place is the holy ground the Ryukyuan religion's creator deity Amamikiyo. It played an important role as the site of state rituals.

中城城跡

Nakagusuku-jō site

These are the ruins of castle walls first built in the 14th century and later reconstructed. The walls are situated on a vast limestone plateau and form a beautiful curve that skillfully use the natural rock and terrain.

勝連城跡

Katsuren-jō site

This was the castle of Amawari, a prominent aji (minor king) who resisted the Ryukyu king until the end. You get a sweeping view of the sea from the top of the gently curved castle walls.

Zakimi-jō site

The castle was built by Gosamaru who served the Ryukyu king. The archway gate that leads into the premises is known as Ryukyu's oldest castle gate.

今帰仁城跡

Nakijin-jō site

The castle of the kings that ruled Hokuzan during the Sanzan period. After the kingdom's defeat to Chūzan (the later Ryukyu Kingdom), a governor was installed here to manage the island's north. It is known for its cherry blossoms and a cherry blossom festival is held every year from January to February.
